What is a csa-style box?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, click here for more information on the traditional CSA model.
We call Saint Boxes CSA-style, because they are similar to a traditional CSA, in that you receive a weekly share of seasonal fruits and vegetables, but instead of coming only from one farm, we work directly with numerous farms in the Gulf Coast region to ensure a wide variety of produce.
Similar to a CSA you pay for a month (or your "share") upfront. This enables us to guarantee farms a steady amount of business and allows us to purchasing in larger volumes, which in turn helps us keep the cost of the boxes down.
When you join a CSA or shop locally at the farmers market, you become part of a local community that goes beyond the food. You are supporting farmers and small businesses, as well as helping to protect our environment.
what is the difference between a small and large saint box?
Both boxes will contain a great variety of fruits and vegetables each week, but the larger box will have a few more items and occasionally some premium ingredients. The small box is great for 1 person who likes to cook a lot, or 2 people who enjoy produce, but may not cook all their meals at home. The large box is great for 2-3 people that cook regularly, or 3-5 people who may not cook all their meals at home. Both boxes will always contain a great variety of produce to snack on fresh and items to cook.
what happens to my saint box if i'm going out of town or can't pick-up?
We are happy to put your subscription on hold if you let us know 48 hours in advance. If you can't make it to the market on your pick-up day, please contact us and we will hold it for you. Shoot us an email if you have any questions or to make alternate arrangements. We know it's summer and vacation time, so we're happy to accommodate your schedules!
what if i have a food allergy?
Please notify us of any food allergies when you sign up for a Saint Box and we will do our best to accommodate you. That said, we cannot promise to always be able to provide you with alternatives.
is everything organic?
The majority of the produce available in the Saint Boxes is not certified organic. However, our growers and producers all practice different sustainability measures specific to their farms and surroundings.
Many of our vegetables are Naturally Grown, a grassroots alternative to the USDA’s National Organic Program. The Certified Naturally Grown label was created in 2002 in response to the USDA labeling, which is expensive in terms of time (paperwork per crop) and application fees.
